Cakewalk instrument definition files williams manual#
They also use the same manual, and supposedly they scrub it down to meet the particular software you're buying, but that's something they have NOT done a good job at! there are many errors in the manual and you've only found ONE of them. But they cripple SHS and MC to reflect the price you pay for the software. what CW does is use the same software and same manual as they do for their flagship software: Sonar. maybe some of the "one man show" companies where the author is the entire company, but not companies as large as CW.įor what it's worth I completely agree with you on the manual! The manual for MC and for SHS is not completely correct. you'd be hard pressed to find a software company who doesn't do that. You will also want to know that SYSX saves/dumps are not supported for MC series either, and I'm sure that will further your frustration, but I thought you'd want to know.Īs far as it belonging to you once you download it - that's typical for any software. I do not have any knowledge of anyone confirming this to work with MC4, nor do I know if anyone has even tried it for MC4. I've bumped two threads for you that deal with ins defs for MC3. What I find frustrating about them is the closed door "ya get what you bought attitude" - if I ran that show with my customer they'd hang me.

Additionally, why also would they provide numerous *ins files as a part of the install when in fact they are not even used!? Sloppy work.Īs a project manager of a sizable software effort, I can sympathize with Calkwalk to a degree. I have a hunch that the Roland and Yamaha instruments listed there in CM4 are merely testing artifacts that the developers left in the product.

To go further, a deceptive aspect of the the software is that it lists Instruments that can be defined, yet the code behind the GUI does not support what the GUI presents. Normally I would not complain, except that the Help files themselves tell me that Instrument Defining is possible and the customer rep also points me to instrument defining forum items, leading me to believe THEY think it is possible. I did have some degree of expectation that there would be scaling back of features and with the download version, apparently once you buy the deal is 's yours - so you truly get what you get. No way to get your money back from them either.Īctually Cakewalk is a good piece of software (IMHO).for $40. She apparently has no knowledge of her product. Even more disappointing was the Cakewalk Customer Service Rep Kelly Brennan merely pointed me to the forum links.

I have a Korg Triton Extreme and I am really pissed that I spent money on CW4 because I have no means of midi-in of instruments from multiple patch banks. This means that CW MC4 users have NO ability to Define their instrument in CW4 and are solely limited to using the General Midi interface. I know this because I deleted every instance of them and CM4 still displayed the Roland GS patches and Instruments as though CW MC4 were still reading the file. CW MC4 developers have completely hard coded the Instruments you see in the Instrument Definitions list. No change appeared in the MC4 list when I viewed the Patch Instrument names list. I modified every instance of the CW MC4 listed instrument name Roland GS (which was found in at least 10 different *.ins files, which were in multiple directories) to see which file affects what is read my CW4. I did this to validate which ins file that the CW MC4 software actually reads. In the course of trying to understand how Cakewalk reads the ins file I tried just editing the Roland GS instrument Patch Names.

I corresponded with a Cakewalk rep and was referred to several links here in the Music Creator forums on how to update the ins files to all another instrument (I have a Korg Triton Extreme). I am way frustrated with Cakewalk.1) the install file process hangs while installing a wav file (just ignore it and the installation will continue, 2) the Help files have graphics and discussion that refer to Sonar software, NOT MC4 (I believe), but really the most frustrating aspect is the Instrument definitions.
